A stack of fresh picked asparagus my Buddha buddy Ho-ti, and I am in business. A friend recently asked me how things were coming with my poetry manuscript. The one that I started editing ten years ago. Sent to a colleague for fresh eye editing, who kept it for another two years. I said that I had not looked at it in a long time. I had planned on having it published two years after the Home Series, A collection of poems inspired by an area tornado touchdown which left us picking debris from other peoples homes out of our garden, and my own memories of my grandparents home being destroyed by a tornado. An Artbook with a limited publication, sold out long ago. I wasn’t sure about digging out old bones, but after a couple of conversations with past editorial folk, I was encouraged to start the ball rolling again. I have several newer pieces to add to the manuscript. In reading some of the older poems again, I find myself getting very emotional. Even with time, the impact of raw emotion as it leaps off the page is striking. Even when I was the one who wrote it. Strange in a way, how that happens.
So today the shop is closed. Our shelves are bare, literally. I am spending the next few days working in the lab, bottling and batching. Not to mention the new spring trio collection will be available next week. I have decided to go with a raffia bow on the bottles and box. I know, it ain’t uptown, sleek, av-ant or post whatever. But I don’t care. It is spring and I love spring and pretty girlie things, and I can do what I want. Some people actually like pretty girlie things, and I say yay for them. (us). Bringin’ girlie back……..
My little Ho-tiĀ has been sitting on that summer table for so many years I have forgotten. I went out today to take photos of the blossoming tees, and stopped to pick some fresh asparagus. It is only available fresh like this for a few short weeks, and to have it in season this way is the greatest gift. I will steam, and toss it with a bit of olive oil and a squirt of fresh lemon. I think I might make garbanzo bean salad to go with it. If I have time at the end of the day I will go back out and sit by that little table and go over my manuscript. I will probably take my notes for the new perfume brand as well. I have a lot of reading to do.
Peace & Blessings, ZZ……
